You may have noticed adverts increasingly popping up half way through ASMR videos recently and it hasn’t gone unnoticed in the ASMR community.
ASMR videos are unique because they help people fall asleep and induce a sense of being in the present moment in the viewer, however, when a loud advert interrupts this moment, it can be quite stressful for the viewer.
Creators have always had the option to place adverts in the middle of their videos, however, this is now a default setting for some ASMRtists and YouTube has placed adverts in the ‘natural gaps’ of their videos. There is no option to over-ride this. This in turn promotes the use of ad-blockers which is a detriment to the content creator.
Mid-roll adverts are extremely frustrating to many ASMRtists who are now questioning if YouTube is fit for purpose for their content.
ASMR Kitten recently apologised for mid-roll adverts on Reddit:
Surely YouTube can find a solution for this huge community who brings constant viewership to the platform?
