Mixed feelings have been circulating in the wake of Gibi ASMR's announcement of her new premium app Zees.
One to rival the Tingles app, which doesn't have the best reputation among ASMR content creators, she's set about to support ASMRtists by developing a platform that is fair.
Available in the app store or Google Play on 7th September 2019, Zees is $9.99 a month, or $99.99 for a yearly subscription and offers the following:
Ad-free Viewing/Listening: a subscription based service allows the viewers to watch ASMR videos uninterrupted by adverts
Exclusive Videos
Sleep Aids: sleep timers and wake up alarms are naturally built in to the Zees platform
Offline Viewing: You can download videos and watch them as many times as you like whilst not eating through your data
Gibi promises the app will not interfere with her YouTube production schedule.
Subscribers to Gibi's channel have been extremely vocal in the comments section, especially regarding the pricing of the premium app: 'I’m never going to use this because I’m not paying 10$ for ASMR when I can watch it for free in YouTube. Yes maybe I would try it if it was 1.99' 'Gibi i'm sorry. I love you, your content, and what you're doing for the community, but I don't think anyone is bothered enough by ads to pay $10 a month for this app. Ads are only 15-30 seconds at a time, and it's custom for ASMRtists to not do midroll ads, so its not a big deal for us. I'm aware YouTube tends to treat their creators unfairly and we all hate it, but not many people are going to pay $100-$120 a year to support someone else's lifestyle. That's essentially all it is. On YouTube you can make playlists, like videos, subscribe, comment and you can download videos with a third party app. The only thing you can't do is listen audio only or with the screen off, but that's not enough to pay $10 a month. I'm sorry and I wish a had a random $10 a month to just give to you in support but it's too much. The people who will be willing to pay for this are the same people who would have just put their money in a tip jar or patreon for you anyways, because this app is for supporting creators. There is little to nothing in it for the viewer.' 'Just lower the subscriptions and we're on that app quicker than you can spell Zees'
'I love the idea of an ASMR app and understand the problems of YouTube for these asmrtists but nobody's gonna pay that much for asmr. What would be nice is if there was ads but you can pay to remove them. What would be really nice is if they came up with ASMR ads, which people be been talking about forever. But it's nice the creators get more freedom.'
'The biggest problem is that YouTube is free and open to everyone so why pay monthly/yearly for the same type of content'
The app features a select few ASMRtists currently and intends to add more content creators in the near future.
Wishing Gibi the best of luck in her new endeavor.
