In my most recent livestream I tap on a book called Attached.
This book has truly changed my perspective on how I approach relationships.
Attached, by Amir Levine and Rachel Heller, is about adult attachment styles in romantic relationships. The book helps you to understand your specific needs.
This reassuring read has helped me to understand myself at a deeper level and come to terms with a relationship that recently didn’t work out due to our attachment styles clashing (the push/pull factor).
There are three types of attachment style:
- Anxious (that’s me!)
-Avoidant
- Secure
The good news is, you don’t have to be stuck with the same attachment style forever, this can change!
Secure is the style we should be aiming for – I’m speaking to you Mr Anxious and Miss Avoidant.
This book has taught me that anxious and avoidant types rub each other up the wrong way, however, with solid communication, it’s not impossible to be in an anxious/avoidant relationship. But we all crave a secure base and that is what we should strive for.
We all need to learn how to better communicate our wants and needs in a relationship, instead of acting out or keeping our distance.
Do you need a lot of intimacy? Are you unhappy when you’re not in a relationship? Do you act out? You may very well be anxious.
Do you send mixed signals? Do you need boundaries? Do you tend to distance yourself? You could be avoidant.
Using this book we can identify OUR needs to help us find the RIGHT person to depend on.
You can actually take the attachment style test for free on: www.attachedthebook.com which is really cool!
Leave me a comment and let me know which attachment style you have.
